ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the relationship between kinesiophobia and somnipathy among inpatients with lumbar degenerative disease after surgery, and analyze the mediating effects of post-traumatic stress disorder and family care. Methods:A cross-sectional survey method was adopted, from July 2020 to July 2022, a total of 130 lumbar degenerative disease patients from Wuhan Dongxihu District People′s Hospital were enrolled as research object by convenience sampling method. General information questionnaire, Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Posttraumatic Stress Checklist-civilian version and Family APGAR index were used for investigation. A structural equation model was established to evaluate the mediating effect of post-traumatic stress disorder, family care on kinesiophobia and somnipathy. Results:The scores of kinesiophobia, somnipathy, post-traumatic stress disorder and family care were (39.95 ± 3.90), (7.63 ± 0.46), (25.99 ± 4.99), (5.67 ± 1.76) points, respectively. There were significant differences in the scores of somnipathy in terms of age, monthly income, course of disease and pain degree ( F values were 3.21 to 10.12, all P<0.05). The dimensions and total scores of somnipathy were positively correlated with kinesiophobia ( r values were 0.347 to 0.800, all P<0.05) and post-traumatic stress disorder ( r values were 0.385 to 0.825, all P<0.05), negatively correlated with the scores of family care ( r values were - 0.653 to - 0.282, all P<0.05); the scores of family care was negatively correlated with kinesiophobia and post-traumatic stress disorder ( r = - 0.695, - 0.637, both P<0.05); the scores of kinesiophobia was positively correlated with post-traumatic stress disorder ( r = 0.773, P<0.05). The indirect effect of kinesiophobia on somnipathy was identified, and the total indirect effect value was 0.44; the indirect effect value of family care and post-traumatic stress disorder was 0.09, which accounted for 12.0% of the total effect. Conclusions:Post-traumatic stress disorder and family care play a multiple mediating role on the relationship between kinesiophobia and somnipathy in patients with lumbar degenerative disease after surgery.

ABSTRACT

@#Separation issues have been rampant, and a significant rise in union dissolution cases in the Philippines has been observed. This certain occurrence should be given particular attention because it may alter the individual's way of living, particularly in perceiving and dealing with relationships. This study explores the lived experience of individuals who have undergone parental separation. The study utilized a Hermeneutic Phenomenological Design, which involved ten (10) respondents using a semi-structured key informant interview guide. The respondents were selected based on criteria as follows: (1) Have parents who have decided on the dissolution of marriage (annulled or informal) living separately; (2) 18 years of age and above; (3) Residents of Central Visayas; permanent or transient in Cebu City and; (4) Able to understand and express ideas in Cebuano dialect or English language. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis anchored on van Manen's six-step interpretive phenomenological approach with management and analysis done manually created a poem titled “Memoirs of Yesterday,” which incorporates three (3) major themes: (1) Into the Tunnel: Etiology of Separation, (2) The Darkness in the Tunnel: effects of the dissolution of marriage to children- emotional, psychological and academic status and (3) The Light After the Tunnel: attitude of the child and parent towards relationships and separation. The study implies that nurses should recognize the importance of assessing family concerns in rendering holistic and individualized client care. Thus, nurses should use assessed needs in advocating for the creation of more programs on awareness and counseling to families and, most especially, children.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the effects of rehabilitation education guided by the information-motivation-behavior (IBM) model on knowledge, attitude and practice in patients with schizophrenia. Methods:The clinical data of 109 patients with schizophrenia who received treatment in Taizhou Second People's Hospital from January 2020 to June 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. These patients were divided into study group ( n = 59) and control group ( n = 50) according to different intervention methods. The control group was treated with routine health education, and the study group was treated with IBM model-induced knowledge, attitude and practice intervention. After 3 months of intervention, the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale, the Morisky self-reported Adherence Questionnaire score, Attentional Control Scale, Family Adaptation, Partnership, Growth, Affection, Resolve Scale, and the Personal and Social Performance Scale scores were compared between the two groups. Results:After intervention, positive symptom score, negative symptom score, and total Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale score in the study group were (10.15 ± 2.20) points, (11.49 ± 2.38) points, and (64.22 ± 9.40) points, respectively, which were significantly lower than (13.68 ± 2.71) points, (14.72 ± 2.45) points, (72.57 ± 9.58) points in the control group ( t = 7.50, 6.96, 4.58, all P < 0.001). After intervention, the Morisky self-reported Adherence Questionnaire score in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group [(1.09 ± 0.27) points vs. (1.45 ± 0.39) points, t = 5.66, P < 0.001]. Attentional Control Scale, Family Adaptation, Partnership, Growth, Affection, Resolve Scale and the Personal and Social Performance Scale scores in the study group were (62.20 ± 7.31) points, (11.26 ± 2.24) points and (52.02 ± 5.50) points, respectively, which were significantly higher than (54.75 ± 6.68) points, (9.80 ± 2.13) points, (48.78 ± 5.31) points in the control group ( t = 5.51, 3.46, 3.11, all P < 0.05). Conclusion:Information-motivation-behavior model-guided knowledge, attitude and practice intervention can remarkably improve the mental state of patients with schizophrenia, improve attention control and medication adherence, and thereby improve their family function and social function.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

This research is part of a broader study concerning siblings and the family network. Its objective was to investigate care among siblings and the repercussions of generational transmission on the sibling group. It employed clinical-qualitative methodology, centered on preliminary clinical interviews with families during the family assessment period. Clinical data were gathered at the Applied Psychology Service of a private university in Rio de Janeiro. The 14 families who took part in the study had the following configurations: four married-couple families, four stepfamilies, three single-parent families and three separated-parent families. We observed that both reduced parental investment and excessive family-care workload made it difficult to establish a more health-promoting parent-child relationship, often leading to the parentification of one or more of the children, with the assignment of parental functions to them. Flaws in the psychic assimilation of elements of generational transmission also influence in the creation of sibling bonds, inhibiting the development of family ties of solidarity and the establishment of healthy care practices among siblings.

ABSTRACT

Background: Parents feel very stressed when their child is sick and in Intensive care unit. Objectives of study were to identify common parental stressors during their child's critical illness and to examine its relationship with demographic variables. Methods: It's a Cross-sectional questionnaire based study done in PICU & NICU of a tertiary care medical college hospital in Mumbai, 62 parents of children admitted to PICU and NICU for at least 24 hours were interviewed using the Parental Stress Scale. The demographic variables were also recorded. The data analyzed using Cluster Analysis, Kruskal Wallis test, Chi- square test and spearman correlation. Results: The main cause of parental stress was to witness the child's sufferings (unresponsiveness/pain, procedures, tubes, monitors around child) (median of standardized score = 3.9, IQR = 0.5, p <0.005). The median of standardised stress score due to hospital environmental factors (monitor alarms, nurses, doctors around baby, other sick children) was 3.7 (IQR = 0.5) and that due to lack of intimacy with child was 3.6 (IQR =0.4). Age of parent inversely correlated with the level of stress (r = -0.638) and parents of infants were more stressed (p = 0.005). Number of children, socioeconomic status didn't affect the stress levels. Conclusions: Young parents and parents of infants were more stressful. Socioeconomic status, residential area and parental sex didn't affect stress. Few stress factors need remedial steps to meet parental needs. The clinician's awareness about these stressors, may help to provide optimized family-directed care.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to clarify feasibility of a booklet for families of children dying with incurable cancer. Of 267 pediatric oncology specialists, 76 (28%) participated in this cross-sectional survey. Ninety-three percent of participants answered that they were “likely to use” the booklet, and 86% percent answered that they believed the booklet was “helpful” for families. Some participants described various advantages of its use as follows: “able to communicate something that is difficult to put into words,” “easy to understand for families,” “families can read whenever they choose to,” and “able to grasp the direction of dying.” In contrast, other participants described points of attention of use as follows: “optimal timing to bring out,” “acceptance of families,” “direction as interdisciplinary team,” “confidential relationship between families and interdisciplinary team,” “disinclination among health care providers,” and “information volume of the booklet.” Thus, our results validated feasibility of the booklet. In conclusion, pediatric oncology specialists should provide their support of utilizing the booklet for families and assessing each family condition and advantage/attention of using the booklet.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Different types of supports to families are among the aspects that contribute to family quality of life. This study aims to identify the types of supports that families of children with disabilities, users of early intervention services, consider relevant and how public administration influences the quality of this support. This is a qualitative study based on a critical social paradigm. Sixteen mothers and four fathers were interviewed and their contributions were analyzed using discourse analysis. The importance of family support and networks of parents of children with disabilities were highlighted. The role of the supports by health professionals is also crucial and, therefore, cuts in public health and social services have exacerbated the inequity in health. In practice this is highlighted in relation to those who can and the ones who cannot afford additional services. Other approaches in the support to families are suggested.

ABSTRACT

In previous decades, the participation of women in the labor market in Latin America has steadily grown. Consequently the need to understand how are organized the routines and the relationships of those who are involved in these processes -facing new mobility scenarios, segmentation and redefinition of the labor and the family- has emerged. In this context, this paper analyzes how members of professional middle class households in the City of Buenos Aires make their family arrangements after the birth of a child. The main hypothesis is that the way the people involved responded to these changes and reorganized their everyday spaces are not primarily adjusted to the logic of intra-household negotiations, but instead it can be more adequatdy described by processes of collective decision occurred inside and outside the households.

ABSTRACT

The family provides support to its members in areas such as development and health maintenance. In order to provide assertive practices, health professionals should treat families as entities whose care processes are validated by their own members. Family care should be explored as a process where, the to do, the ought to do, and the being dimensions interact. The objective of the study was to explore the family care in the mexican population from its underlying dimensions. Methods: This was a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study. Results: Care in mexican families exposes three dimensions of care: the ethics in which the habits and virtuous attitudes of daily living propel the ought to do; the aesthetics in where the to do of care emerges from the sentiments towards the other, and ontology, which aims to rescue the being in the family care. Conclusions: The family care has three dimensions which interact among each other: ethics, aesthetics, and ontology; the first recovers the virtuous sense of attitudes, habits, hopes, obligations which propel the ought to do of the family, the second weights the feelings as part of the family care to convey the to do of care, and the third mobilizes the being of the family to express the care of the group through its resonances.

ABSTRACT

Falls are the most prevalent and serious accident older people suffer in their homes and also, they are the main reason for their hospital admission. In a great part of the cases falls expose at risk elderly people’s well-being and quality of life. A critical narrative literature review was undertaken to inform research in the area of falls in older people living in the community. Articles were retrieved from Medline and Scopus data bases from November 2011 to January 2013. Citation searching was also used as a complement by hand searching of relevant journals. Additionally, an alert mechanism was established in Scopus for a period of one year to identify relevant studies or literature. Reviewed studies have provided valuable evidence about falls in older people and potential prevention strategies. However, evidence from relatives, caregivers and significant others is conspicuously absent. Falls in the community and falls prevention happen in social and family contexts that must be empirically studied and reported.
